Mircea Samoila - Country Director for Romania
Mircea Samoila  - Country Director for Romania Since he started working for Projects Abroad five years ago, Mircea has gained experience in England, Sri Lanka, Ghana, Ethiopia, Romania, Moldova and, not in the least, in his favourite country, India. A man of eclectic tastes, Mircea loves comparative literature and religion, riding motorcycles and playing tennis, but most of all, he is fascinated by the way travelling forces him to constantly re-invent his world.
 
George Andrei Ciotlausi - Archaeology Manager
George Andrei Ciotlausi - Archaeology Manager George Andrei Ciotlausi is the archaeology manager for Projects Abroad Romania. His interest in history and archaeology started in high school. During university he joined a history group (Grupul Sarmizegetusa), and he is still a member. He has participated in diggings since 2004, on prehistoric, ancient and medieval sites. His main interest is in prehistory and ancient times. In his spare time he likes mountaineering and reading, usually history books. His nickname between the volunteers is "Cave man" or "George of the jungle". Don't be scared of him, he doesn't bite.
 
Razvan Voica - Veterinary and Conservation Assistant for Romania
Razvan Voica - Veterinary and Conservation Assistant for Romania Razvan is in charge of the Conservation and Veterinary Projects. As a professional Forestry Engineer, he feels at ease with any subject linked to alpine and sub-alpine wildlife. He is also a passionate reader and only spending time with his family can take him away from his job or his books.
 
Daniela Cristea - Care Assistant for Romania
Daniela Cristea - Care Assistant for Romania Daniela completed a degree in psychology-pedagogy in Brasov in 2004. She discovered her passion for psihcology in highschool, when she first got in touch with this discipline. Her favourite courses were those concerning education for children with mental and physical disabilities. After college she started working with people with social disorders and now she takes care of the children in orphanages along with the Projects Abroad volunteers.
 
Associate Archaeological Staff
 
Daniela Marcu Istrate
Daniela Marcu Istrate Daniela studied archaeology in Bucharest University and later studied in Italy and France. Her doctorate was on "Medieval tiles from Transylvaia, XIII-XVII centuries". She has over eleven years of experience in archaeology with over 35 digs in which she participated as a collaborator or archaeological field director. She is the director of the Hieronymus Cultural Association. She has published extensively and she has two kids that she loves. She likes to listen to classical music and to read.
 
Angel Istrate
Angel Istrate Angel studied archaeology at Transylvania University Cluj-Napoca and he has a master in medieval studies. He has experience in over 20 archaeological digs and has published extensively. He has completed many archaeological reports on medieval sites. His hobbies are fishing and reading.
 
Dragomir Popovici
Dragomir Popovici Professor Popovici studied history at the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iasi and later on he obtained his doctorate in archaeology at the Institute of Archaeology "Vasile Pirvan" in Bucharest in 1992. At present he is the director of the archaeology section of the Romanian National History Museum at Bucharest. He specialises in the Neolotichal period and he has over 20 years of archaeology experience. He has published over 45 papers and is a member of The European Association of Archaeologists. He loves digging, reading and cooking good food. (If you meet him ask for the "Bordusani sauce").
 
Florin Vlad
Florin Vlad Florin was born near one of the sites he is currently digging, Bordusani. He studied history in Constanta University and later he specialised in a series of stages in Orleans, France. In 1995 he entered in The History Ialomita County Museum and in 2002 he became its director. Florin is a member of a collective of archaeologists that is digs Neolitical archaeology sites at Bordusani and Hirsova every year. In his free time he likes to read, play ping-pong and catch fish, which he loves to eat.
 
Inel Constantin
Inel Constantin Inel has been working at the National Union History Museum at Alba Iulia since 1997. He studied history and archaeology at the "1 December 1918" University at Alba Iulia and later he gained his masters degree there. He is currently attempting a doctorate, specialising in ceramics from Transylvania from the first Iron Age. He has published a series of works with other archeologists and started working at archaeology digs in 1995. He likes travelling and reading.
 
Horea Pop
Horea Pop Horea became interested I archaeology when he was still in high school. He studied in Cluj-Napoca at "Babes-Bolyai" University where he also took his doctorate degree in arhchaeology. He warks at the Zalau County History and Art Museum and his specialization is Dacian classical period. Except his work he is likes in rock music and... archaeology.
