Archaeology - ROMANIA
Our Volunteer Archaeology in Romania project

Why Archaeology in Romania with Projects Abroad?

Because we have 12 years of experience of volunteering in 21 countries all around the world. For the last 3 years we have been undertaking archaeology projects in Romania, collaborating with some of the best specialists in the periods from Neolithic to Mediaeval times.

Why Romania?

There is a rich history which is just waiting to be discovered and researched, starting with the Neolithic Gumelnita culture, going through ancient Dacians and Romans and continuing with medieval times in Transylvania. The Dacian civilization, one of the biggest mysteries in the country, is a main focus of the archaeology project. Also, because of the great role witches have played in the history and development of Romania, the Saxon fortified churches are another focus.

Why Archaeology?

"Who controls the past controls the future" George Orwell's 1984.
There are elements from the past that we know nothing about and we therefore have little understanding of the great accomplishments of past generations. Through detailed study of archaeological sites, it is possible to discover and describe past cultures and also formulate explanations for the development of current societies. You can learn about civilizations that have long-since disappeared and through clues and investigation you can try to reconstruct their way of living. It is a science where you never know in which direction your study will take you - each excavation is unique.
